At the recent Highland and Islands Music and Dance Festival held in Oban, members of the Christina Cairns School of Highland Dancing enjoyed success in the choreography event competing against other dance schools from all over the country. “Irish” was the set theme for the girls competing in the twelve years and under section, with the title of their dance “If your Irish come in to the Parlour”. This was the first time that this group of girls had taken part at the event, so it was therefore a great achievement, with all their hours of hard work being rewarded. Two other teams were entered with the title of their dances being “Spring up with Porage” and “Shinty Frolics”. We will have the videos of the dances on the site soon but are having a couple of technical problems just now. Check our The Christina Cairns School of Dance on Facebook to see the videos

It’s Never To Late… Are you up for the challenge?
Here is a video of World Highland Dancing Champion Daniel Carr after winning his title this year at Cowal. By his own admission he was never placed or was awarded championship points in a championship until he was fifteen years old, so it’s not too late! All you need is good practice and commitment and you are half way there.

OUR THREE CHAMPS!
Cowal Games certainly provided success for three of our dancers this weekend. Lisa McGillivray, Libby MacLean and Katie Lambert all had the honour of standing on the centre boards in front of a packed grandstand on Saturday after being presented with their trophies.
Lisa, looking fantastic in her new outfit, won the beginners 8yrs and under section. This was a great achievement for Lisa, who was dancing for the first time at Cowal. It was also a special win as her sister Kirsty, name also appears on the trophy.
Libby, who has just had her appendix out less than two weeks ago!, managed a incredible recovery by coming back to Cowal to win the Novice 10yrs and under section. Last year she won Lisa’s trophy.
Katie, competing for the first time in the Argyllshire Championships, won the runner up in the under 13yrs section. This win was very special as Katie’s mum, Christine, had also won this trophy quite a number of years ago at Cowal! We wont say how many!
Overall our dancers did very well at Cowal winning lots of medals in the various sections.
Well done everyone! Meantime we all have tor remember, practice makes perfect!
